No one but me to care for my little one today and too many other things to do, so I’m just writing a quick evening poem today. Not sure I’ll like this later, but sometimes these pieces done when I’m tired can surprise me when I go back to them.
Ever since the world lit up the more.
Inspired by a little quest:
undoubtedly this is adventure.
The launch matter-of-fact,
other hands remote turmoil,
tango there.
The route across the circle,
lights bright outside in snow–
it was worth it.
The next leg fulfilled
her dream, celebrating hot air.
The east their way to the forest,
daringly swung,
pair now jumping the heart:
the final days
of destination and barrier.

Sounds like a long day — no idea how you managed to write so beautifully. I especially like “The launch matter-of-fact,
other hands remote turmoil,
tango there.”
Thank you for the kind encouragement–it’s good to know that other lines in this landed for someone else. I’ve been doing erasures when I’m tired (the source text for this poem is here: https://mymodernmet.com/around-the-world-at-80, which is an uplifting little article about two 80-year-old women’s trip around the world–I maybe should have cited it, but I was trying to push away from the original and wasn’t sure it was that relevant to the poem). I find that my exhaustion can actually help when doing these because I’m working quickly and not thinking as much. Erasures aren’t everyone’s thing, but it’s been a nice technique to have in my back pocket for days like yesterday. I encourage others to try it!
