OK, so I guess I am back to chance games.
I read an enchanting little blog post about an amphitheater in Milan, and thought I might use it as the source text for a diastic with the seed word chairs, just on a whim to try something different from the more serious project of the last six weeks. What emerged was a musical little poem, but I don’t know if this is all that interesting. I was hoping that using a word closely tied to the theme of the article would enable some repetition, but in this case it came out flat:
concrete chairs
chairs curiously
their chairs chairs
they quality chairs
chairs chairs
I thought I would give the word chairs another try, but this time with Gertrude Stein’s Tender Buttons. The fame of those first few passages meant that the echo of the original text was hard to escape, but by “A Substance in a Cushion” I no longer felt its presence as much. I settled on running through that section a couple times, until the text entered a repeating loop. Here’s what turned up:
cushion the change
behind interest
supposing change that change
chairs before things
could there
away ordinary color leaves
There’s some interesting lines here. It could likely be worked with, but I don’t know if it will pull me back.
