I’m continuing my diastic reading of Soundings from yesterday. One thing I’m finding interesting is the relationship between two words that the method reveals (highlighted for me by the repetition that emerged today). While I know that it’s of course random (as rhyme is random), it feels fitting that the word “catamaran” has subtle similarities to our family name. While mutual connections and not boats brought my parents together (my mother had no experience with sailing until she met my father), their life as a couple, the community of their adult lives, and even my father’s accounting practice has been almost entirely shaped by their involvement in racing Hobie catamarans in the 1970s and into the 1980s early in their marriage.
